David Allen Miller, 74, of Cleveland, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home. He was born on December 22, 1951 in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Eugene “Peanut” Tuney Miller and Myrtle “Rusty” Abernathy Miller.

David was a 1970 graduate of South Iredell High School in Troutman and then went on to serve his community as a member of the National Guard. He dedicated 47 years of his life to the Whit-Miller Shoe Store & Repair in Mooresville, where he was beloved by his customers and known for his outstanding craftsmanship as a shoe cobbler. His motto was “I’m saving souls.”

A long-time member of Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, he became the first Eagle Scout in Troop 173 at the church.

Outside of work, David was an active member of the Mt. Mourne Volunteer Fire Department. He cherished horseback riding and found immense joy in the time spent with his family, where he was affectionately known as “Poppy.” His engaging personality shone through as he loved to entertain with his magic tricks and playful joking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Miller; and sister, Jerri Philemon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Audrey Johnson Miller; daughters, Cansas Graham (Walter) and Jean Radford (Ryan); brother-in-law, Randy Philemon; beloved grandchildren, McKensi G. Paradis (Matt), Cydney Graham (Lane Scruggs), and Ryker Radford; and his partner in crime, Bill Haire.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with a service following at 2 p.m. at Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Karriker and Rev. Brian Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow the service at Centre Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
