
David Dennis Dewey, 64, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House after a brief illness. David was born April 30, 1962 in Bridgeton, N.J., to the late Elsie and Norman Dewey Sr. He attended Bridgeton city schools, including Bridgeton Senior High School. He was currently employed by Betco, where he worked for the past 11 years.
He and his family moved to North Carolina almost 30 years ago and he would say “what a great life I’ve lived” and how proud he was of all the things he was able to do. New Jersey held his fisherman and blue crab heart along with great friends and family still, but here with his family was home.
David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Terri Dewey; his daughters, Michelle Blackwell of Statesville and Stephanie Holden of Bridgeton. He was welcomed into heaven by his daughter, Jennifer Dewey. Also surviving are his four grandsons, Leevon (Alina) who he raised and was more Iike a son to him, Jaxson, Nicholas, and Kyrin, all of North Carolina, and granddaughter, Alyvia of Bridgeton. He was also a guiding hand in the life of George Bailey, whom he treated as a son. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law, James Bevacqua and wife Susan of North Carolina and John Bevacqua, his wife Maria and niece and nephew Connie and Johnny of New Jersey. Also surviving are favorite cousins Kelly Bracco (John) and Tracy and Tom Bratton, along with their children Mickey and Maddy, all of New Jersey, and special friends Steve and Darlene Morris, of New Jersey, that always Kept him with his blue claw crabs and fishing stories over the years. He was also predeceased by brothers Dennis Mick and Norman Leslie Dewey Jr.
His legacy will always be how much he loved his family and how everything he did was for them.
A celebration of life is planned at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville for Thursday, May 28, at 4 p.m. officiated by Pastor James Lewis.
The family would like to thank the Neuro-ICU staff at Baptist for the care shown him and his family and especially all of the staff of the Gordon Hospice House of Statesville for the love, care, and compassion shown for David and his family during this difficult time.
