David G.R. Wilcox, 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away at the Gordon Hospice House to go home and be with the Lord on May 8, 2026. Garland was born on June 19th, 1947, in Iredell County, to the late James Burley Wilcox and Pinkie Christie Wilcox. Garland worked as a delivery driver at Suburban Propane for 17 years of service and then went to work for Iredell-Statesville Schools as a custodian and security for the school system. Garland’s favorite things to do were spending time outdoors and working in his shop, studying his Bible, and spending time with his family and fur-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by Joyce Kay Campbell Wilcox, his wife of 41½ years; his three brothers, Allan Wilcox, Sherman Wilcox, and Noah Wilcox; his sister, Anna Mae Wilcox Wooten (Mike); his half-sister Gurthie Margaret Wilcox; and his nephew, Michael Wilcox.

Garland is survived by his two daughters, Angela Dawn Wilcox Stanley and husband Will, and Kathy D. Shepherd and husband Rickey; his five grandchildren, Sarah L Icard, Thomas Del Shepherd, JoAnn Stanley, Brooklyn Stanley, and Richland Stanley; his great grandchild, Addie; his three nieces Sharon, Renee, and Linda; his great nephew, Mark Wilcox; his great niece, Jennie Wilcox; his extended great-grandchildren, Lily and Gabe; and extended family, including Janette Warren, Gina, Audie, Rusty, Doreen, and Yvette.

The family will begin receiving friends at Chapman Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 2 p.m., and a funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. with Pastor Michael Bills officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Baptist Church Cemetery in Statesville.
