Robert Michael “Mickey” Johnson, 74, was born on January 13, 1952, at Davis Hospital in Statesville, N.C., to the late Jack “J.C.” Johnson and Era Shoemaker Johnson. Mickey passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Juanita Johnson; his brothers, Larry Warren, Jack “Dinker” Johnson, and Roger “Beaney” Johnson; and his great-grandson, Taelon Fraley.

Mickey was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and worked for PSNC for many years.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Beverly Church (Wayne), Alicia Crisp, and Chad Fox (Chasity), all of Statesville. He was a proud and loving “Paw Paw” to five grandchildren, Trae (Abbi), Jayden (Brandon), Eli, Haylee, and Xyleaha. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Andrea, as well as his sister, Judy Brown (Randy), and many other family members who loved him.

The family invites all who knew Mickey to attend a memorial service at South River Church, 2880 S River Church Road, Woodleaf, NC 27054, on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The family will receive friends and family from 1 until 2 p.m., with the memorial service following at 2 p.m.

Gunsmoke and Two and a Half Men were some of Mickey’s favorite shows to relax and watch while enjoying ice cream and coffee. He also loved music and could often be found singing along to CMT videos. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed going to his mother’s house for lunch, where her homemade pinto beans and biscuits were always a favorite.

Mickey was known for his loving heart, generous nature, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He shared a special bond with his dog, Chica, who was his little lap buddy and best friend. Mickey loved Little Debbie cakes so much that the family joked even the company might notice his absence. He had a big sense of humor and was always picking and joking with people. Mickey loved to laugh, make others smile, and simply enjoy life with those around him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or South River Church, 2880 S River Church Road, Woodleaf, NC 27054.
