Russell Warren Bumgarner, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 16, 1938, in Mecklenburg County, N.C., to the late Roby Yates Bumgarner and Bessie Sipes Bumgarner. Russell proudly served in the United States Air Force, showing dedication and commitment during his time of service. After his military career, he devoted 54 years to the healthcare industry as a plant operations specialist at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where he was respected and admired by colleagues and patients alike for his ability and unwavering work ethic.

A lifelong resident of Mooresville, Russell was an active member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where he found joy and fellowship with his church family. He was known for his talents in woodworking, locksmithing, and electrical work, hobbies that brought him much satisfaction and allowed him to share his skills with others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Teague and Diane Baxter; and brothers, Homer Bumgarner and John Bumgarner.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda “Lin” Nanney Bumgarner; son, Russell D. Bumgarner (Gina); sister, Gail Bumgarner; grandchildren, Jessica Proctor (Matt), Heather Bumgarner (Jeffrey), and Andrew Bumgarner; great grandchildren, Jaelan, Tyler, Keylan, Journey, and Briar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Wes Smith and Rev. Whitney Cassell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
