The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office invites residents to sign up for the upcoming Citizens Academy, a community-oriented program designed to provide interested citizens with quality interactive training regarding law enforcement activity in Iredell County.

Participants will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from October 3-26.

During each session, a wide variety of topics will be discussed, including:

♦ History and duties of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office;
♦ Detention Center Operations; and
♦ Various Units within the sheriff’s office

Members from the various units within the sheriff’s office will discuss agency activities, and programs such as criminal investigations, narcotics trends and identification, crime scene processing and many others. The program includes tours of the Iredell County Detention Center and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Training Center.

Participants will be able to experience the firearms simulator, and see and handle various pieces of equipment used by the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the K-9 Units. After graduation from the course, participants are given the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol deputy.

Anyone interested in attending the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy must be at least 18 years of age and pass the sheriff’s office criminal history check.
