James M. Myers, 75, a resident of Mooresville, N.C., for over 35 years and formerly of Winston-Salem, N.C., died on May 4, 2026, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born in New Castle, Pa., on July 13, 1950, to Gaylord L. and Mildred A. Myers who preceded him in death.

Jim delighted in sitting outside observing the many birds that he fed. He was frequently found sitting on the back deck or at his window-facing desk where he could observe and enjoy the birds at his feeders. A budding birder, he frequently used an app to identify which birds were nearby. He surely would have wished for more time sitting on the deck on the Kure Beach home, simply enjoying nature and being soothed by jazz or classical music.

He was a great sports fan, following Pittsburgh and North Carolina sports — he was an original Permanent Seat License holder for the Carolina Panthers for over 25 years. Jim also enjoyed getting together with friends for game night, wine tastings, our annual Ugly Christmas Sweater parties and frequent pool parties. He especially enjoyed his time with family, finding real delight in his grandchildren and always attending their sporting events.

He leaves his wife of almost 49 years, Deb; sons, Justin and Nathan (and wife Theresa), all from Raleigh; brother, Wayne, and partner Ron from Palm Springs, Calif.; brother-in-law, Dave Miller, and wife Cyndi of Wilmington, Del.; his grandchildren, Alex (age 12) and Archer (age 9), who live in Raleigh, N.C., with parents, Nathan and Theresa. Jim was especially close to his niece, Stacy Rutherford with other nieces and nephew being Chelsea Miller, Stephanie Taylor and Eric Rutherford.

A celebration of life will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, on Saturday, May 9, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Fred Coates officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the ICU nursing staff who cared for Jim those difficult three weeks, as well as all the physicians and other staff. Although his stay at the Hospice House was very brief, the compassionate care provided by the Hospice House staff is deeply appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as Jim greatly enjoyed their publications, bird identification app and information concerning birds. You can make a donation at birds.cornell.edu/tribute or send to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is proudly serving the Myers family.
