The intersection of South Green and Garfield streets in the City of Statesville is now officially a four-way stop intersection.

The change comes following a recent traffic study that showed that — based on the volume and speed of vehicles utilizing the intersection — a four-way stop would safely control traffic.

The study was requested after repairs and replacement costs of the existing traffic signal became increasingly higher.

To help drivers adjust to the four-way stop, the traffic lights now blink red in all four directions. There are also “stop ahead” signs approaching the intersection and the Statesville Police Department is monitoring the area.

Council approved the shift to the four-way stop at its October 7, 2019 meeting.
