The Statesville varsity men’s basketball team opened its 2019-2020 season on Wednesday with a 68-64 road win at Northwest Cabarrus.

Chris Brown scored 20 points to lead the Greyhounds and Miykei Fields helped fuel the Statesville offense with 18 points. Messiah Robinson and Tarez Hamilton added 9 points each.

“It was a hard-fought game from start to finish with lead changes all four quarters,” Statesville coach Sonny Schofield said. “We beat a quality team. Northwest Cabarrus was very athletic and quick.”

The Greyhounds return to action on Monday when they play host to East Lincoln.
