FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting for Friday afternoon to approve the initial contract for the next superintendent.

The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. at the Career Academy and Technical School in Troutman. In open or closed session, as appropriate, the board may conduct any other business properly before the board.

According to chairman of the search committee and school board member Sam Kennington, the board will go into a closed session at the beginning of the meeting to discuss the qualifications and characteristics of the next superintendent.

The board will then reconvene in open session to approve the initial contract and announce the name of the next superintendent.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order prohibiting meetings of more than 10 people, the meeting will be livestreamed via Iredell-Statesville Schools Facebook page and on the district’s YouTube channel.

Superintendent Brady Johnson’s contract expires on June 30. The board’s plan is for the new superintendent to start on July 1.
