A 17-year-old suspect faces numerous charges following a high-speed pursuit that began in Mooresville and ended when a vehicle collided with a guardrail on Interstate 77.

The Mooresville Police Department announced the teen’s arrest in a news release Friday afternoon. His name was withheld because he is a juvenile.

According to the MPD news release, officers were dispatched to the Stafford at Langtree development early Friday morning after a resident observed a suspicious person on a security camera of her property.

When officers responded to the 911 call, they saw three individuals get into a vehicle and start to leave the neighborhood, police said. In their haste to leave the area, the subjects’ vehicle nearly hit an MPD patrol vehicle, according to the news release.

The suspect vehicle turned onto Interstate 77 southbound at a high rate of speed with officers giving chase, police said.

After the suspect vehicle collided with a guardrail in Mecklenburg County, the suspects got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene, police said.

With help from other responding officers, one suspect was located in the parking lot of Caliber Collision in Cornelius, police said. The suspect vehicle was reported stolen in Iredell County.

The suspect who was apprehended was wanted on a Juvenile Secure Custody Order. He was transported to the Alexander County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he will be held. He will be charged with 11 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and one count of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle from the Stafford at Langtree and Franklin Grove subdivisions.
