The City of Statesville is preparing for snow early Friday morning.

According to the latest forecast, snow and rain are expected to begin about 4 a.m. Statesville street crews will be standing by to make travel safer.

Trucks have already applied brine to the main roads to help keep the snow and/or ice from sticking to the roads. It is applied to the streets prior to the weather event. The sand is put down to help improve traction once snow/ice is on the roads.

The City of Statesville prioritizes which roads get brine or sand first, starting with the major streets that run through the city limits, hospital emergency room entrances, exit ramps, and other “cold spots” with a history of problems.

City workers will clear streets if enough snow has fallen (2 inches), but primarily depends on Mother Nature to help melt any frozen precipitation.

If your garbage is picked up on Fridays, please place your carts on the curb Thursday night. Sanitation crews will run the Friday route as soon as it’s safe, on Saturday if needed.

Leaf and yard waste pick-up will be suspended temporarily until the weather improves.

Changes to city services or office hours and updates on road conditions will be announced on the City’s website, Facebook and Twitter and through local media.

If you experience a power outage, call 704-878-3479 to report the outage. Please give your address and any important information about what you might have seen or heard related to the outage. It is very important that you report the outage. It helps electric utilities crew locate the problem quicker and get your power back on! Be sure to provide your phone number so that you can be contacted when power is restored.

Travelers are reminded to be on the lookout for possible icy patches due to freezing temperatures overnight. City crews will use salt and sand to treat any spots on the road that might cause trouble.

Overpasses, bridges and exit ramps are treated first. If you encounter ice or adverse road conditions while traveling in the Statesville area, please call 704-878-3406. Do not call 911.
