The City of Statesville is preparing for snow early Friday morning.

According to the latest forecast, snow and rain are expected to begin about 4 a.m. Statesville street crews will be standing by to make travel safer.

Trucks have already applied brine to the main roads to help keep the snow and/or ice from sticking to the roads. It is applied to the streets prior to the weather event. The sand is put down to help improve traction once snow/ice is on the roads.

The City of Statesville prioritizes which roads get brine or sand first, starting with the major streets that run through the city limits, hospital emergency room entrances, exit ramps, and other “cold spots” with a history of problems.

BRINE & SAND PRIORITY LIST

City workers will clear streets if enough snow has fallen (2 inches), but primarily depends on Mother Nature to help melt any frozen precipitation.

SANITATION

If your garbage is picked up on Fridays, please place your carts on the curb Thursday night. Sanitation crews will run the Friday route as soon as it’s safe, on Saturday if needed.

Leaf and yard waste pick-up will be suspended temporarily until the weather improves.

Changes to city services or office hours and updates on road conditions will be announced on the City’s website, Facebook and Twitter and through local media.
