Suspect faces statutory rape, sexual exploitation charges following investigation by MPD

A Mooresville man was charged with statutory rape and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor following an investigation by the Mooresville Police Department.

The MPD announced the arrest of Deion Rashad Lloyd, 25, in a news release Friday afternoon.

The Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation on June 15 after the MPD received a report of a weapon being discharged in the 400 block of East McLelland Avenue, according to the news release.

Investigators obtained warrants charging Lloyd with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with that incident.

After securing a search warrant for Lloyd’s residence, members of the Criminal Investigations Division and Special Response Team found the suspect in the company of a 15-year-old girl, which led to the additional charges, police said.

Following his arrest, Lloyd was given a $250,000 bond.
