Global K9 Solutions has donated a new K9 to the Mooresville Police Department.

K9 Axle, who is valued at $15,000, will work with MPD Officer Bryan McGahan.

“I’ve always loved dogs and wanted to work with them, so when this opportunity came up, I went for it,” said McGahan, one of the newest K9 officers for MPD.

McGahan came to the MPD from the Cornelius Police Department and began working with K9 Axle in November. Axle will officially be on duty with McGahan once he is certified. He will join the five other K9 officers at MPD.

K9 Axle is trained in narcotics and article detection, tracking, and apprehension.

“It’s been great,” McGahan said with a smile, of his experience with Axle. “I’ve enjoyed every second.”

Alabama-based Global K9 Solutions has worked closely with the MPD in the past. Several of the current working K9s obtained from the company.

Sgt. Dan Walther, who leads MPD’s K9 unit and has been a K9 officer for 12 years, said that Axle’s donation from Global K9 Solutions and the growth of the K9 program is very beneficial for the residents of Mooresville.

“It makes our community safer, and the more K9’s we have, the happier I am,” said Walther.
