The Mooresville Police Department announced the arrest of Justin Andrew Terry, 18, of Silver Creek, Ga., in a news release.

Officers were dispatched for a reported hit and run accident involving a pedestrian being struck near the intersection of NC 150 and Perth Road about 10:55 a.m.

Members of M PD’s Traffic Unit began an investigation into the accident.

Officers found that a utility worker with a crew doing work on the shoulder of N.C. 150 had been struck by a white Dodge Ram flatbed dually truck that left the scene heading west on N.C. 150, according to the news release.

Witnessed told officers that the driver of the truck ran off the side of the road in the marked work zone and struck the worker, police said. Several other workers were almost struck by the truck but were able to move to safety before being hit.

Witnesses took photographs of the truck’s tag as well as the business name and phone number on the side of the truck. Other witnesses attempted to follow the truck as it drove away from the scene.

Officers were able to make contact with the business that owned the truck and spoke with the driver, advising him to return to the scene, which he did.

The worker received serious injuries to his lower leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

The work crew had the work zone properly marked with signage, cones, and lighted vehicles. The injured worker was wearing the proper reflective safety vest.

Terry was charged with felony hit and run involving injury and failure to maintain lane control. He was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
