A 3-year-old child suffered fatal injuries in an early morning vehicle crash Tuesday in Statesville.

Statesville police officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the 2500 block of East Broad Street about 1:46 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located a 2003 Chevrolet minivan on its side in the front yard of 2553 East Broad Street, according to an SPD news release.

Officers and Iredell County EMS personnel began rendering first aid to the driver and passengers of the vehicle. Unfortunately, a 3-year-old passenger succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The other two passengers suffered minor injuries, according to the news release.

The SPD traffic unit was called to the scene and took over the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
