The Statesville Police Department is investigating a head-on collision that killed two people on Sunday evening.

Officers responded to Salisbury Highway about 7:17 p.m. Sunday for a report of a crash, according to an SPD news release.

According to police, a 2011 Honda Accord traveling west on Salisbury Highway crossed into the eastbound lanes and sideswiped a 2011 Ford pickup truck. The Honda then struck a 2018 GMC pickup truck head-on, according to the news release.

A passenger in the Honda Accord, identified as 27-year-old Chad Tyrone Kincaid of Statesville, and a passenger in the GMC pickup truck, identified as Doris May Proefrock, 79, of Sherrills Ford, died as a result of the collision, police said.

The SPD Traffic Unit continues its investigation of the collision. No charges have been filed at this time.
