Special to Iredell Free News

The public is invited to attend four open houses and provide input on the draft of the Iredell County 2045 Horizon Plan.

Iredell County staff has been working to update the plan, which serves as the county’s guiding planning document.

The current 2030 Horizon Plan was adopted in 2009. The public provided input before the drafting of the updated plan in the beginning of the year, and the project team is now seeking community input on the draft plan.

The Horizon Plan provides a vision for the County. The draft 2045 Horizon Plan includes chapters titled Prepare for Oncoming Growth, Preserve Farmland and Agriculture, and Coordinate Across the County. It includes goals, policies and actions related to future land use, transportation, economic development, natural resources and other topics.

Feedback from the public about the draft will guide additional changes before adoption. Adoption of the final version of the plan will ultimately be the decision of the Board of County Commissioners.
