The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education recognized students who have exceled in extracurricular activities during the January 8 board meeting.

LNHS Cheer Teams
Lake Norman High School’s Football and Competition Cheer Team were recognized at the school board meeting.

Lake Norman High School’s Football and Competition Cheer Team won their 11th D1 Large All-Girl Varsity State Title at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Cheerleading Invitational State Championship.

In early December, Lake Norman’s varsity and junior varsity football and competitive cheer team competed against 116 different high schools that completed in 45 different divisions.

The LNHS cheer teams secured a first-place finish and State Championship Title in every division they entered.
-D1 Large All-Girl Varsity Traditional State Champions (Fifth state title in a row and 11th in school history);
-D1 Large All-Girl Varsity Gameday State Champions (First time entering this division and first title in this division for the school); and
-D1 Large All-Girl Junior Varsity Traditional State Champions (First JV State title in school history and highest JV team score of entire competition)

Livestock Winners

On December 5, eight students competed at the Western North Carolina Future Farmers of America Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event in Salisbury.

The purpose of the Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event is to provide a competitive event for agricultural education students, emphasizing skills in livestock evaluation, selection and management as taught through the agricultural education curriculum.

The objectives of the event included:
• Understanding and interpreting performance data based on industry standards;
• Selecting and marketing livestock that will provide increased economic returns;
• Communicating industry terminology effectively; and
• Identification of criteria used in grading livestock.

North Iredell High School’s team secured a 13th place out of 62 teams in the western half of the state and fifth place in Northwest Region in this event.

Team members are Kara Murdock, Morgan Harrington, Landon Crouse and Hayley King.

The Junior Team placed 22nd place out of 63 teams in the western half of the state and fifth in the Northwest Region in this event.

Team members are Lane Barnette, Carson Gaither, Hunter Sipe and Wyatt Cline.
