The pilot of a small airplane was injured early Sunday afternoon when the plane crashed near Normandy Road in Mooresville.

Personnel from Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Shepherds Fire-Rescue, along with Iredell County EMS, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, responded to the crash about 12:20 p.m.

Arriving units confirmed that a a 2000 single-engine Cessna had crashed in the front yard of a residence at 157 Normandy Road while attempting to land at Lake Norman Airpark.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol identified the pilot as Peter Granow, 62, of Tega Cay, S.C. He was transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries, according to an NCSHP news release.

Fire fighters stretched a precautionary hose line while responders rendered aid to the pilot and secured the airplane. 

Normandy Road was closed in both directions on Sunday afternoon.

The FAA will conduct an investigation.
