Mooresville Police Department officers recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two suspects on Tuesday with the assistance of the department’s automatic license plate reader (ALPR) system.

At approximately 7:08 a.m., MPD officers responded to the area of River Highway/I-77 pursuant to an ALPR hit on a black Chevy Camaro reported stolen in Winston-Salem. MPD Officers located the vehicle and completed a vehicle stop without incident.

The driver of the vehicle, James Dilorenzo, 32, of Winston-Salem was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle. Dilorenzo was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center without bond.

At approximately 11:32 a.m., MPD officers responded to the area of Fairview Road and U.S. Highway 21 pursuant to an ALPR hit on a black Chevy HHR reported stolen in Charlotte.

Officers located the vehicle. Based on information that the driver of the vehicle had five active warrants from Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, including assault with a deadly weapon, the officers completed a high-risk vehicle stop without incident.

The driver of the vehicle, Leon Massey Jr., 46, of Charlotte was charged with driving while license revoked and open container. All of the active warrants were served, and additional charges are forthcoming. Massey was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center without bond.
