The Mooresville Police Department announced the arrest of Gerald Deon Pendergrass, 31, of Lauderhill, Fla., in a news release Tuesday.

About 3:02 p.m. on Monday, MPD officers responded to the are of Williamson Road and Brawley School Road after an automatic license-plate reader reported a hit on a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Denver, Colo.

After arriving in the area, officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and fled westbound on Brawley School Road, according to the MPD news release.

The vehicle pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle became disabled in the area of Old Post Road and Moors End Loop, police said.

The suspect then fled on foot into the neighborhood, but was tracked by an MPD K9 team. With the assistance of residents and multiple law enforcement officers in the area, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Pendergrass, who was wanted in Florida and Georgia, was charged with Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Felony Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Felony Identity Theft, Felony Breaking and Entering, DWI, Misdemeanor Hit and Run, Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer, No Operators License, and two counts of being a fugitive from justice.
