FROM STAFF REPORTS

A Statesville man faces drug and weapons charges after the Statesville Police Department’s Special Response Team executed a search warrant at his home.

Tony Young

The SPD announced the arrest of Tony John Young, 34, in a news release Monday.

The SPD began an investigation after receiving complaints that Young was selling narcotics from his home at 1154 Mahogany Road and within the city limits, police said. During the investigation, officers made controlled purchases of narcotics directly from Young at his residence, according to the news release.

On January 17, the SPD SERT Team executed the search warrant at Young’s home, just east of Statesville. During the search of the home, officers located crack cocaine, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a Mini Draco AK-47 style pistol, which investigators were able to link to Young, according to the news release.

Young is a convicted felon and is currently on probation for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Following the search and the recovery of illegal drugs and firearms, Young was apprehended and taken into custody by SPD officers.

Young was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Methamphetamine. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where a magistrate set his bond at $62,500.
