Doug Hendrix was elected mayor of the City of Statesville on Tuesday, defeating four other candidates in the race to succeed long-time Mayor Costi Kutteh.

According to unofficial results, Hendrix garnered 1,293 votes (30.82%), edging runner-up William Morgan by 256 votes.

Councilwoman Kimberly Wasson finished third with 1,022 votes and Brian Summers was fourth with 753 votes. Roseta Williams received 88 votes.

Kutteh, the city’s longest-serving mayor, opted not to run for a sixth term.

CITY COUNCIL RACES

Statesville voters also selected four new city council members on Tuesday.

♦ AT-LARGE: In a six-candidate race for two at-large seats, Trey Robertson was the top vote-getter, edging James Pressly by nine votes. Robertson won a four-year term. Pressly will get a two-year term.

Braden Zittle was third with 990 votes, Dustin Jett fourth with 986 votes, Todd Lange fifth with 803 votes and Frederick Foster sixth with 784 votes. Emily Bosshart Alphin, who dropped out of the race after the ballots were finalized, received 297 votes.

Incumbents Steve Johnson and Kimberly Wasson did not seek re-election.

♦ WARD 2: Kristi Madison Pfeufer was unopposed in the race to succeed long-time Councilman C.O. Johnson, who did not run for re-election.

♦ WARD 3: Incumbent Doris Allison was re-elected, garnering 283 votes to defeat challenger R. Corina Iyoob by 195 votes.

♦ WARD 5: Tip Nicholson won a close race, garnering 313 votes to defeat former councilman John Staford by five votes. Alex Walker was third with 241 votes and Shelton Moore fourth with 194 votes.

Councilman Joe Hudson did not seek another term.
