The City of Statesville will begin enforcing mandatory water restrictions on Monday, May 4. These restrictions are required because of the extreme drought conditions.
The City of Statesville provided the following FAQ to help city water customers.
Q: What drought stage are we in?
A: The City of Statesville is currently in Stage D3 – Extreme Drought, which includes mandatory water use restrictions.
Q: Why are restrictions in place?
A: To protect the City’s water supply and ensure enough water is available for essential needs such as drinking water, fire protection, and medical services. (The City of Statesville Water Shortage Response Plan is available on the city website: www.statesvillenc.net)
Q: What restrictions are in place?
A: Outdoor water use is highly restricted. All customers, including businesses, must follow these restrictions:
♦ Irrigation is prohibited, except: Tree and bed irrigation (drip, bubble, or hand watering only): Odd-numbered addresses: Saturday 8 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m. Even/unnumbered addresses: Sunday 8 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m. Athletic fields and golf courses only with an approved plan.
♦ Residential vehicle washing is prohibited
♦ Filling or refilling pools is prohibited (top-offs allowed)
♦ Outdoor fountains/ornamental water use is prohibited (unless supporting fish)
♦ Washing buildings, sidewalks, and streets is prohibited, unless required for safety or health regulations
♦ Dust suppression, street washing, and hydrant flushing are limited to essential purposes only
Voluntary conservation is strongly encouraged for all water use.
Exceptions & Variances
• Private wells: Customers using a private well (not connected to the City water system) are not subject to these restrictions.
• Alternative watering plans: Athletic fields and golf courses may operate under an approved plan.
• Case-by-case variances: Requests for exceptions may be submitted and reviewed by the Water Resources Department.
Enforcement & Fines
These restrictions are mandatory. Violations may result in citations and civil penalties.
• First violation: $200
• Second violation: $400
• Third+ violations: $600
Each day a violation continues is considered a separate violation.
• Fines may be paid at the Customer Service Office (301 S. Center Street).
• If not paid within 10 days, the fine will be added to the customer’s water bill.
• Appeals must be made through the Water Resources Department. (Per City of Statesville Code §23-76, Water Shortage Response Procedures)
