The Hugh Hall and Samuel Hall Foundation has announced the four recipients of the 2026 Samuel Hall 47 Years a Slave Scholarship, awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community.
This year’s honorees are:
♦ Emmanuel Conrad-Long, Mooresville High School;
♦ Ken Jenkins, Statesville High School;
♦ Promise Lovelace, Statesville High School; and
♦ Iyona Reid, Crossroads Arts and Science Early College
The scholarship honors the legacy of Samuel Hall, whose firsthand narrative “Samuel Hall 47 Years A Slave” continues to guide the Foundation’s mission of truth-telling, education, and community impact. The Foundation is also developing a museum on the original 87-acre Hall plantation site in Iredell County to preserve and share this history.
“We are proud of these exceptional students,” the Foundation said. “Their achievements reflect the strength of our past and the promise of our future.”
A banquet to honor the recipients will be held at 4 p.m. at on Saturday, May 2, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 125 N Meeting Street in Statesville.
