The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred at a home off Mott Road near Mooresville on Tuesday,
ICSO deputies responded to the residence about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in response to a 911 call that an individual had been shot at that location, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release Wednesday.
When deputies arrived at the home, they located an adult male victim seated in a vehicle in the driveway of the residence, Campbell said. The man was suffering from a gunshot wound but was conscious, according to the news release. He told deputies that he had been shot by an unknown individual, the sheriff said.
Iredell County EMS personnel transported the man to Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital. He was listed in stable condition on Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff said.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and began an investigation.
Two adult females were inside the residence at the time of the incident, according to the news release. Detectives determined that one of the females fired the shots, Campbell said.
Evidence collected at the scene indicated that the man who was shot had brought a firearm to the residence, according to the news release. Investigators also located evidence of illegal narcotics inside the home, Campbell said.
Further investigation revealed that a physical altercation occurred inside the residence involving the man and the two females. During this altercation, the firearm was discharged, striking the victim in the chest, the sheriff said.
This incident remains under active investigation.
