J.P. Haynes, 89, of Harmony, N.C, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born in Yadkin County on February 27, 1930, to the late Hurley J. Haynes and Ina Renegar Haynes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Odell Haynes and his wife Margaret, and Grover Allen Haynes and his wife Nancy.

J.P. was retired from Reynolds American following 29 years of service. His greatest joy after retirement was going on Volunteer Mission Trips through Southern Baptist Convention. During his 21 years of Volunteer Mission Trips, he was blessed to be able to travel to several different countries and did a variety of different jobs. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Shaw Haynes; sons; James P. Haynes (Debbie) of Hamptonville, Jerry P. Haynes of Statesville, D. Brent Haynes of Olin; and a daughter; Teresa H. Cummings (Jeff) of Harmony. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Elizabeth Patterson, Amanda Walker, Christopher Haynes, Benjamin Haynes, Conner Cummings and Caden Cummings, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at Sandy Springs Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery including full military rites. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening at Sandy Springs Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m.

J.P. requested that no flowers be sent, but that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Cemetery Fund at Sandy Springs Baptist Church, c/o Jonathan Royal, 2930 Sandy Springs Road, Harmony, NC 28634.
