Linda Jean Schilling Nygren, 69, of Statesville, N.C., died Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Linda was born in Dryden, N.Y., on March 22, 1950, to the late David Schilling and Mary Mason Schilling. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elma Hull and Sandy Bennett.

Early in her career, Linda worked as a reporter for the Hickory Daily Record and also as a teacher’s assistant, but mainly she was a homemaker. She enjoyed many kinds of crafting, including beading, making jewelry and Scripture stenciling. Writing stories was another hobby she liked. She loved her church and church family. More than anything, she loved her family and spending time with them.

Linda is survived by her husband, David Nygren; a daughter; Sarah DeMorrow (Frank) of Cornelius; a son, Adam Nygren (Mike) of Gastonia; a granddaughter, Emma Grace DeMorrow; a sister, Pat Simpson; a brother, Doug Schilling; sister-in-law, Nancy Hogan (Ted); nieces, Cathy Baker, Judy June (Brian), Robin Swartwood, Christine Riker, and Carissa Brown (Jake); nephews, David Hull and Sean Wilcox; great-nieces, Jaime Swartwood (Mike & Harper), Jessica Belanger, Alysha June, Michele McWilliams, Carrie Powers, Kimberly Wacht, Kathleen Bergmark, and Loralee Brown; great-nephews, Harold Swartwood, Joshua Beattie, Adam June, Garry Williams, Jake Burlingame, David Sickmon and Bo Brown.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 13, 2019, at Northview Church of Christ at 1 p.m. with Minister Les Bonnett officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening, December 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date.
