Mrs. Carolyn Loraine Imes Powell, daughter of the late James C. Imes and Jewell Whiteside, was born in Iredell County on June 27, 1947. She departed this life on Monday, February, 10, 2020, at the Accordius Healthcare in Statesville, N.C.

She was a member of Purpose In Life Ministries, where she served as a Missionary and on the Kitchen Committee, and the altar worker guild. She attended the Iredell County Schools, and she worked at a Textile Company as a knitter.

Carolyn was united in marriage to Nathaniel Powell, who preceded her in death. Two sisters, Beulah Strickland and Marie Redmon, also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life one son, Charles DePriest Corry of Statesville; two daughters, Donnetta Lavette Corry of Newport News, Va., and Kimberly Deneen Schofield of Statesville; a step-daughter, Jeanetta Wilkins; siblings, James Imes Jr., Elvis Imes and Freddie (Faith) Whiteside, all of Statesville; Sandra Gaines of Salisbury; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pastor Carolyn Morrison, Margaret Powell, Gail Powell, Polly Powell, and Pete Powell, all of Statesville; her grandchildren, Lamonica (Santwan) Dalton and Lewis Watkins, both of Newport, Va., Dadren Hall of Arkansas, Kandyce Schofield of Charlotte, Shanti Reid of Winston-Salem, Deshawna Bradshaw of Lincolnton, Kasha Swint of Hickory, Citorrie ( Menika) Wilkins of Statesville, and Anton Wilkins of Troutman; special nieces, LaShay Imes and Nikki Imes; special nephew, Steven (Dottie) Imes; a host of great grandchildren, other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, the Greater New Mt. Olive Hoand liness Church Family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. at the Greater New Mount Olive Church. Pastor Carolyn Morrison will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mrs. Powell will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, Statesville, until taken to the church to lie in state at 2 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of 332 Salisbury Road, Statesville, at all other times.
