Gloria Norma Welch Blanton, 94, of Denver, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.

She was born on August 24, 1925, in Alexandria, Va., to the late Alfred and Lena Welch. Mrs. Blanton was employed with Hartford Insurance in Washington, D.C., the Coast Guard in Washington, D.C., and the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md. Mrs. Blanton enjoyed golfing, square dancing, bowling, playing Bridge, and she loved to travel. She was a former member of the Susanna Chandler Chapter of the DAR.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Burrage; and brother, Ryland Welch.

She is survived by her husband of 77 years, William L. Blanton; daughter, Norma Calvert; son-in-law, Richard Calvert; sisters, Virginia Riley and Bernice Collins; and grandsons, John B. Calvert and William T. Calvert.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at Centre Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Howard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centre Presbyterian Church, 129 Centre Church Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.
