Jean Good Brewer, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

She was born June 10, 1934, in the mountains of Marion, N.C., the daughter of Pearl Washburn Huskins and Clarence Good. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Clarence Huskins. Jean would soon leave the mountains for Greenville, S.C., and that electrifying smile she had, no doubt caught the eye of a young serviceman named Jack Brewer, who would become the love of her life. They married in 1959 and theirs was a love story for the ages. They made a family that included two daughters and a son, while simultaneously running a successful grocery business in the Derita community of Charlotte. Following their retirement in 1973, they settled on the Meck Neck of Lake Norman and it was the perfect place to make many wonderful memories with their growing family.

Soon there were three grandchildren for them to enjoy and there were many summer days spent on and around the lake. Anyone who knew Jean during those years and the ones that followed more than likely experienced her delicious Southern cooking. She was known for her sweet tea, homemade biscuits, sausage gravy, banana pudding, peanut butter fudge, and fried okra (fried anything honestly). She could often be found in the kitchen cleaning and frying fish that had been caught from a day out on the lake.

Jean had many hobbies and interests. She loved traveling and especially enjoyed trips to the beach with her family. She was an avid shopper, a lover of clothes and jewelry, and a lifelong fashionista. She also enjoyed bowling and it was a hobby that the family enjoyed together, spending many years playing in leagues and traveling for tournaments. She also loved playing the piano and enjoyed serving as the pianist at her church. Jean also took delight in a good card game, playing Bingo, and trying her luck on a slot machine. Most of all, she loved her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces, and nephews were the center of her universe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Bill McKinney, and her beloved Jack in 2013.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Pamela Ross (Joe), Sandy Mills (Ned), and son Jay Brewer; grandchildren Kelly Helms (Steve), Tiffany Moore (Ryan), and Bj West. Great grandchildren Sheldon Kearse, Avery Lefler, Lydia Moore, Scarlett Moore, and Nolan Helms; sister Ann Sonnier; brother James Huskins (Carol); and numerous special nieces and nephews. We also cannot forget to mention her many friends and bowling buddies from over the years. She lived her life by the philosophy there were no strangers in life, only friends she had not met yet.

A celebration of her life will be held as soon as conditions permit.
