Mrs. Bertha Virginia Withers Walker, 90, of Statesville, N.C., passed away at her home on Friday, April 9, 2021. She was born in Mooresville, N.C., on January 30, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Lee and Betty M. Mayhew Withers.

She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and attended Statesville Covenant Cathedral. At an early age, she attended Watkins Chapel until she married and moved to Louisiana. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Eugene Caldwell; a son, Franklin “Frankie” Eugene Caldwell Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth (Milton) Jones; and a sister-in-law, Anna Withers.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life five children, Deidre Elizabeth Sloan of Statesville, Cynthia Dale Caldwell of the home, Sylvia Gail (Phillip) Tatum of Statesville, Mary Jewel (Matthew) Alpeter of Belmont and Lawrence Wayne Caldwell of Gastonia; a brother, Louie Lee Wither of Charlotte; grandchildren, William Caldwell of Concord, Sheldon (Shelia) Sloan and Christy Sloan, both of Statesville, Michelle Caldwell, Serika Tatum, and Joey Tatum, all of Charlotte, Brandy Tatum and Phillip Tatum, both of Statesville, Lawrence (Shaunnalyn) Caldwell and Jason Caldwell, both of Charlotte, Chris Caldwell of Kannapolis, and Jonathan Caldwell of Charlotte; fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special cousins, Katie of Statesville, Merlene Lauree of Greensboro, Lloyd Rucker of Atlanta, the Rucker Family, the Jones Family, and other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Horizon Church. Pastor Jason Bost will officiate.
