Coite Escar Hoover, 96, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at his home.

Coite was born September 19, 1924, in Iredell County and was the son of the late William Escar Hoover and Eunice Moose Hoover. He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II with the 541st Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division in the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. Upon his return from War, he married Marguerite Murdock Hoover on August 21, 1946. He raised Quality Angus Cattle on the family farm and later retired from Southern Screw Co. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman.

In addition to his wife of 74 years, Mr. Hoover is survived by one sister, Mildred Hoover Deese; two nephews, Tony Hoover (Mary Jane) of Statesville and Dennis Hoover (Joy) of Statesville; one niece, Becky Ladd of Statesville; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Steven Hoover in 1968; two brothers, Gray Hoover and Gordon Hoover; and two sisters, Sadie H. Burnett and Hilda H. Deal.

A private graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Mt. Herman Lutheran Church with Pastor Deter Punt officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Micah Johnston for his love and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Herman Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
