Mr. James Harold “Jim” Thewlis, 67, of Statesville, N.C., died in a motorcycle accident in Union County on July 1, 2021. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 14, 1953, he was a son of the late Harold James Thewlis and Pauline Marie Welch Thewlis, who survives.

Jim was a retired lineman in Wilkes County for Duke Energy prior and was a Junior Rodeo sponsor. He loved riding motorcycles and horses, cattle farming and was a member of the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Wilkes County and Iredell County Cattleman’s Associations.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Vicky Boyd Thewlis; and two daughters, Shannon Carico (Eric) and Shawn Thewlis. Also surviving are two brothers, Roy Eugene Thewlis (Karol) and John Thomas Thewlis; and three sisters, Debbie Matz, Dion Hampton and Beverly Reed. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Nicholas Carico (Jessica Pope), Leann Carico and Holly Jo Carico; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Miller.

A celebration of life/memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Camp officiating. Masonic Rites will be presented at the service. Private burial will be at a later date. The family will greet friends following the service.
