Robert “Bob” William Brawley, 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away January 5, 2021. He was born September 15, 1942 in Salem, Ark., the son of the late Elmer Newton Brawley and Alma Burrows Brawley Kent and stepfather, Otis Conley Kent.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 29 years, Dee Brawley; and brothers, Darrell Brawley and Richard Brawley.

Bob served his country proudly in the United States Army, he was a Vietnam veteran and had a 20-year career in the National Guard and retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bob worked for many years at the 115 Country Store, Homers Truck Stop and taught automotive mechanics at Mitchell Community College.

He was Past Master of the Charles M. Setzer Masonic Lodge #693, past Post Commander of VFW Post #2031, and member of the DAV Chapter #68. Bob will always be remembered as a Soldier, Patriot and Father, a man who was always known for helping others. He never met a stranger, a compassionate and giving man who served the Lord by serving others.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert C. Brawley; daughter, Robin L. Hopeck and husband Scott; grandson, Zachary Hopeck and fiancée Samantha Keough; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local DAV Chapter #68 in Statesville, N.C., or the charity of one’s choice.
