Ms. Vinita Lee Cherry was born in Iredell County on May 27, 1956, and was the daughter of the late Edward Cherry and Omie Lee Allison Cherry. She departed this life on Friday, March 19, 2021, at Accordius Health at Concord following an extended illness.

She attended high school and prior to her illness, she worked as a spinner at Cannon Mills and also worked at Philip Morris as a supervisor with the Clean Up Crew. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Holiness Church in Mooresville, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, James Cherry, Edward Cherry, Kelly Cherry, Herman Cherry, Heman Cherry, Calvin Cherry, Verlon Cherry, Steven Cherry, Charlie Strugis and Rosaletha Cherry.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life one son, Christopher McKinnon of Concord; three siblings, Gwinlynn Cherry and Shelia Yvonne Cherry, both of Kannapolis, and Michael Cherry of Smithfield; her aunt, Etta Mae Sholts of Maryland; an uncle, Howard Allison of Maryland; grandchildren, Destinee, D’Marion, Dakarius and Da’Nyce McKinnon; a host of nieces and nephews, Minister Wanda Shaw of Kannapolis, Brittany Cherry of Newton, Brittany Powell of Lincolnton, Rashad Cannon and Calvin Shaw Jr., both of Kannapolis; a special cousin, Gloria “Bonnie” (Cotton) Sharpe; and other relatives and dear friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Evangelist Gloria Sharpe will officiate and Bishop Terry Cherry will eulogize.
