William “Bill” Bruce Barnette, 63, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at his home on Lake Norman.

Bill was born on June 19, 1957, in Barnwell County, S.C., son of the late Willis Lee and Martha Louise Jones Barnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lee Alexander Barnette.

Bill is survived by his wife, Victoria Anton Barnette; son Jeffery Clinton Barnette; step-son Jonathan Nichols; step-daughter Jacqueline Hellard (Dwayne); grandchildren Ava Lea, Kayden Barnette and Cooper Parsons; sister Lynda Barnette Rumple (Tim); and nephew Chris Morris (Shannon).

Bill was a one-of-a kind human. He had a quality that allowed him to involve himself in the lives he touched. Bill graduated from South Iredell High School and earned an engineering degree from Catawba Valley Tech in Hickory, N.C. Throughout his 43-year career with family-founded Custom Products Inc, he made significant contributions as vice president, engineer, mentor, and friend. He and Victoria had many plans for their future, including traveling and enjoying their retirement together. Bill’s kindness and compassion was boundless. He was always willing to help and would go out of his way to change someone’s day with a small act of kindness. Bill was a small-town man, avid do-it-yourself handyman, woodsman, nature lover and accomplished craftsman, as evidenced by a workshop at his home along the New River in Crumpler, N.C. His workshop served as a haven to hone his carpentry skills, listen to music and enjoy the abundant wildlife on his property. Bill also had a passion for people and hard work. He continually demonstrated how small acts of kindness and generosity can go a long way. This world will be a little dimmer without him, but his light will shine to anyone fortunate to know him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and a service will follow in the chapel at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held after the funeral at Glenwood Memorial Park.
