Carol Ann Brown York, 83, of Olin, N.C., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 22, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

Born on September 7, 1938, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Spurgeon and Edna Sloan Brown. She married the love of her life, Calvin G. York, on September 26, 1956.

Ann was a graduate of Harmony High School and while she as a homemaker when her children were young, she also worked for many years with Southern Bell, from where she retired. She then loved spending her time traveling the country with Calvin, and working out in the yard and in her flowers as well as attending church, sporting and school activities for her granddaughters before her health started declining. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in law, John M. Wagoner Jr.; her brother, Boyce Brown; and her sisters, Oleta Holland, Thelma Dearman, Lucile Gaither, Audrey Waters, Helen Galliher and Hilda Brown.

She is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Calvin G. York; her children, Karen York Wagoner of Olin and Byron Brown York (Valerie) of Olin, along with her five beloved granddaughters, Anna M. Wagoner, Kara S. Wagoner, Payton York Cockerham (Taylor), Addison L. York, Macie C. York and her precious great grandson, Jaxon Cockerham. She is also survived by one brother, Charles S. Brown (Joy) of Mt. Olive, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Brown, of Atlanta Ga.; along with numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses and children, whom she enjoyed.

Her family is grateful to her special caregivers, Judy Denham and Gladys Hager, as well as to the wonderful nurses and staff with Hospice of Iredell County.

Memorial services celebrating Ann’s life will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paula Northrup officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the services. A private family burial service will be held earlier at Olin Cemetery in Olin, N.C.
