Rita Hagler Blackwelder, 76, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away in her home on Friday, December 9, 2022, after a long battle of declining health. She was born in Charlotte, N.C., to the late James Newton Hagler and late Georgia Lee Ingram. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

She was the oldest of five children. While growing up, Rita and her brothers and sisters liked to play jokes on each other. Being the oldest, Rita was the nurturer. She was a long-time employee in the manufacturing industry. While at Pass and Seymour/Legrand, she was a dedicated and hard-working employee. Rita and her four children resided in Mooresville, where she met her husband of 33 years, Robert Blackwelder.

Mrs. Blackwelder enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She liked to bowl; in fact, she was awarded a trophy for “most improved bowler.” However, she still couldn’t learn to drive. Her family and her relationship with her God was her greatest accomplishment. She enjoyed birthday parties, family outings, and cookouts by the swimming pool. Her salvation was evident in her dedication to her Savior. She became a member of The Cove Church when it first started at Lakeshore Elementary School. She loved to sing gospel songs and worship her waymaker.

Rita was preceded in death by her father, James Hagler; mother, Georgia Ingram; brother, Larry Hagler; brother, Kenneth Hagler; and son, Freddie “Bobby” Burleson.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Blackwelder, and dog Bud, of the home; brother, James “Jimmy” Hagler; sister, Kathy Alexander and husband Scott; daughters Ann Hagler, Annette Morrow and husband Bryan, and Shelley Weddington; grandchildren Tony Burleson and wife Eva, Christen Dellinger and husband Chris, Shelbey Lowman and husband Robbie, Hunter Jones and husband Brandon, and Kamdon Blake; and great grandchildren Kyle, Chelsey, Shawn, and Dawson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2:30 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, 494 E Plaza Drive, Mooresville, NC 28115, with Rev. Larry Paulk officiating.
