Ruth Marilyn Harrington, widow of Herbert Wayne “Buck” Harrington, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022. Born in Augusta, Ga., on August 5, 1942, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Alvin Wesley Wilkes and Willia Pearl Alford Wilkes. She lived most of her life in Statesville and Troutman, N.C., but recently relocated to Richmond Hill, Ga., to live with family. Marilyn was very active in her community and her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran, in Troutman.

Survivors include her son, Dwayne Harrington and his wife Shannon of Richmond Hill, Ga.; son, Jeff Harrington of Statesville, N.C.; and daughter Mary Meredith and her husband Kris of Ocean Isle, N.C.; grandchildren, Chuck Harrington (Jenny) of Greenville, S.C.; Daniel Harrington (Elizabeth) of Tallahassee, Fla.; Sarah Holtzner (Tommy) of Augusta, Ga.; Summer Pareira (Jared) of Evans, Ga.; and Devon Harrington of Statesville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Cai, Caleb, Elsie, and Gracie Harrington of Greenville, S.C.; Addyson and Harper Harrington of Tallahassee, Fla., and Emalyn and Noah Holtzner of Augusta, Ga.; sister Lorrie Wilkes Deringer (Brian) of Cumming, Ga.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Raye Wilkes and Beth Wilkes Scarborough.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking everyone to make a donation to Marilyn’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
