Mr. Wilford Jerome Heaggans Sr., 68, was born in Iredell County, N.C., on June 17, 1953, and was the son of the late Rufus J. Heaggans and Catherine Miller Heaggans. He departed this life on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at The Cidadel in Mooresville, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Alexandria Heaggans.

Wilford was a 1970 graduate of South Iredell High School. He retired from Duke Power as a coal handler in 2012, and later started Wil-B-Cookin catering. Wilford was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, reader, and Sci-Fi connoisseur. He loved Western movies, and he loved to make people laugh. He was a friend to many, always sweet, and a jokester to the core. Wilford grew up in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church and later joined Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church, in the late 1980s he was a member of the Men’s Choir and Inspirational Choir.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life four sons, Thurmond (Kishina) Heaggans, Thurstin Heaggans of Greenville, S.C., Wilford Jr. (Kisha) Heaggans of Niles, Mich., and Detrick Heaggans of Kannapolis, N.C.; three brothers, Leonard (Mary) Heaggans of Troutman, N.C., Rufus Jr. (Annette) Heaggans of Statesville, N.C., and Derrick Arnold of Cleveland, N.C.; three sisters, Sylvia (Zollie) Young, Beverly Heaggans, and Lesial (Curtis) Pearson, all of Statesville; one aunt, Patricia Walls of Statesville; eleven grandchildren, Serenity Heaggans, Kiana (Andrew) Powers, Emmanuel Heaggans, Caden Heaggans, Imani Keaton, Raylen Heaggans, Jaylen Sharpe, Jasmine Heaggans, Jaylen Heaggans, Deja Sharpe, and William Yount; four great- grandchildren, Jayce Sharpe, Cortez Powers, Kiara Powers, and Emmanuel Heaggans Jr.; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, Statesville, N.C., at 12 noon with Minister Chris Gibbs delivering the eulogy and Reverend Gregory Porter officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Cleveland, N.C.
