Amanda Kay Payne, 50, formerly of Statesville, N.C., died Wednesday, May 3, 2023. She was born in Iredell County on November 10, 1972, to Joseph Charles Payne Jr. and Kay Barnett Payne.

Amanda was preceded in death by an uncle, Rusty Tevepaugh.

Amanda was living in North Myrtle Beach at the time of her death. She enjoyed her job as a painter and took great pride in making sure the homes looked nice when she completed her work. She had also worked as a waitress. Amanda loved to fish, listen to music, and have bonfires. She was an excellent writer and loved writing poetry. She had an essay published in the N.C. Heritage Book and also was honored in Washington, D.C. by the National Poetry Association.

She is survived by her father, Joseph Charles Payne Jr.; her mother, Kay Barnett Payne (Cotton); two sons, Justus Paul McCracken and Gavin Kayleb Teno (Charity Jordan); two granddaughters, Gina RosaLee “GG” Nixon and and Hazely Kay Teno; a brother, Erik Scott Payne (Amanda May); nieces, Chloee and Vivi; and a nephew, Tristan.

A Celebration of Amanda’s Life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, with receiving of friends following until 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home.
