Charles Franklin Sharpe, 82, of Lynchburg, Va., passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at his residence with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. Charles was born September 7, 1940, in Statesville, N.C., where he lived for 26 years before moving to Hiddenite, N.C., where he lived for 13 years. Following living in Hiddenite, N.C., Charles moved to Lenoir, N.C., where he lived until 2001. He lived his remaining years in Lynchburg, Va., with his daughter and son-in-law. He was known to his own family as Butch and other friends and relatives as Charlie.

He was preceded in death by his father, William “Carl” Sharpe; his mother, Katherine Lilliebell McClelland Sharpe Bell; brother, Carl Sharpe Jr., brother, Samuel “Albert” Sharpe, and sister Katherine Sharpe Orren Melton; as well as his former wife, Betty Rich Sharpe.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Betty Carol Sharpe Thompson (Paul Thompson) of Lynchburg, Va.; brother, Lonnie Sharpe (Shelby); and sisters, Viola Daniels and Peggy Miller, all of Statesville, N.C. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles loved to freshwater fish. He had a passion to play the guitar and loved Bluegrass, Gospel and Old Country music, which he played on the guitar and sang. He was a member of the Tree of Life Ministries in Lynchburg, Va.. He loved to watch Andy Griffith, Gomer Pyle USMC, and Wheel of Fortune, along with Westerns. He also loved Cinnamon, the family cat, which never left his side.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home with Pastor Lewis Hollars Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
