John Lee “Jack” Salmonsen, 80, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023. He was the husband of Shirley Hough Salmonsen. He was born in Fulton, N.Y., and was the son of the late John and Lila Taylor Salmonsen.

He attended South River Baptist Church and was a graduate of Fulton High School and Canton University. Jack was a farmer and an avid hunter. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and loved baseball. He worked as an electrical engineer with Niagra Mohawk for 35 years. He was a former member of the Cato-Meridian School Board.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley; two sons, David Salmonsen and Mark (Rachelle) Salmonsen; and one daughter, Julie (Tom) Scozzari. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Joshua (Franchesca) Salmonsen, Nathan Salmonsen, Taylor Salmonsen, Bethany Salmonsen, Jonathan Salmonsen, Samuel Salmonsen, Sarah (Jason) Webb, Ashley Scozzari, Miranda Scozzari, and Elise Scozzari; along with hree great grandchildren, Thomas Salmonsen, Ayden Salmonsen, and Mason Salmonsen; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Terry Salmonsen; and one sister, Joan Hough.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 2 p.m. at South River Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
