Special to Iredell Free News

Iredell County EMS personnel Dawn Toohey, Avery Stone and Pat Lowe recently shared information about their work with Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 173.

They helped the youngsters earn their First Aid Pin by discussing what happens when they call 911 and give information to telecommunicatiors. Toohey told the scouts how to use landmarks to help responders know where help is needed if the exact address of the emergency is unknown

The scouts also learned about the importance of staying calm in a first aid situation if your help is needed. Toohey also provided basic first-aid information for treating broken bones, cuts, and bleeding.

The highlight was that the scouts got to sit in the back of an Iredell County EMS ambulance and ask questions about how the different medical equipment and medicine was used to help patients in emergency situations.

The scouts are so thankful for our EMS workers who put the safety and wellbeing of their patients above their own.
