Pauline Lambert Stewart, 91, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was cared for lovingly at her home of 64 years by her family until Friday, July 7, and then transitioned to Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was surrounded by children and grandchildren and passed gently into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Pauline was born on April 9, 1932, in Alexander County, N.C., to the late Clarence Lambert and Carrie Grant Lambert. She graduated from Scotts High School in 1951 and was married to Junior Stewart for more than 50 years from December 24, 1950, until his passing on March 5, 2001.

Pauline was a supervisor at Jantzen in Statesville and after 23 years she was a homemaker, caregiver, and precious beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend. Pauline loved the Lord. As a young girl she was saved and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with her sister Lillian. They were baptized together in a branch that was dammed up for baptism. She was a member of South River Baptist Church, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and worked the nursery until losing her sight. She attended church regularly until becoming sick. She loved talking to her friends and family, listening to the older hymns. She was an avid reader of audio Bible and books for the blind. She researched her family genealogy and checked on the sick and shut-ins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior “Boots” Stewart; one sister, Lillian Cloer; and five brothers, Tom, Junior, Grady, Toby, and Boyce Lambert. She was also preceded by several nieces and nephews, along with many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Those left to cherish her memory include six children, Shirley Burgess (Roy), Dennis Stewart (Vicki), Bubby Stewart (Belinda), Nancy Evans, and Donnie Stewart (Shelby), all of Statesville, and Donna Barker (Frederick) of Union Grove; twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; her dog and constant companion Girly; sister-in-law Dell Lambert of Taylorsville; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with dear friends Connie Campbell, Betty Godfrey, Lillian Clanton, and Mary Emory.
