Joan “Jo” Montgomery Beatty, 80, of Mooresville, N.C., died Saturday, February 3, 2024. She was born in Southfield, Mich., and was the daughter of the late James Walton and Pansy Marie Porter Montgomery.

Jo attended Prospect Presbyterian Church, was a graduate of Gaston College, Sacred Heart College, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

She retired in 2006 after 26 years as a special education teacher, and taught in Gaston County at Mt. Holly Jr. High and East Gaston Sr. High School, in Cabarrus County at North West Cabarrus High School, and in Iredell County at Shepherd Elementary and Brawley Middle School.

Jo was a member of the NC State Employees Credit Union Board, the Lake Norman Shag Club, Women’s Investment Group, and The Lady Shaggers and Friends Bridge Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Montgomery, and sister, Valerie Warren.

She is survived by her fiancé Mack Robinette; three sons, Dane Beatty, Kirk Beatty and wife Danita, and Joel Beatty; two sisters, Gloria Delp and Bert Howerton; four grandchildren, Beverly Saunders, Jessica Holland, Grant Beatty, and Mikayla Beatty; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Saunders and Logan Beatty; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A service celebrating the life of Jo will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, with Pastor Will Gipe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
