Marion Autin McConnell, 92, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.

She was born on November 2, 1931, in Liberty, Texas, and spent her early adulthood in New Orleans, La., where she taught dance at Marion’s School of Dancing before moving to Charlotte, N.C., in 1959. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Florence Louviere Autin. She was a member of Triplett Church in Mooresville and the Newell Chapter #344 Order of the Eastern Star, from which she received her 25-year service pin on May 22, 1986. Mrs. McConnell continued to demonstrate her love of dance throughout her life and actively participated in both recreational and competitive line dancing activities, some of which won statewide distinction in the Senior Olympic games. Marion also had a passion for caring for animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Lewis McConnell; brother, Lawrence Autin Jr.; and granddaughter, Shelley Rose McConnell.

She is survived by her children, Nacy McConnell and wife Gloria, Roxanne Williams and husband Richard; grandchildren, George McConnell, Elizabeth Jablonski, Christopher Williams, Jeffrey Williams, and Rosemary Jeffries; great grandchildren, Thomas B. Barber, Sydnie Sirmon, Baylin Jablonski, Kinsley Jeffries, and Wyatt Williams; and great great grandson, Callahan Barber.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 16 ,from 12 to 1 p.m. with a service following at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Jim King officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be following the service at Triplett Church Cemetery.
