Miss Alexis Zakenya Wright was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and friend. Cookie, as she was affectionately known, passed away on April 25, 2026. She was born on November 26, 2007, in Iredell County, N.C., to April McCombs Lewis and Kenneth Wright of Statesville.

Alexis was known for her vibrant personality—funny, outgoing, and able to talk to anyone. She never met a stranger and was loving and caring to all. Whether she was cracking a joke or breaking into a dance move, she brought joy and light to those around her. She was an active member at Bethesda AME Zion Church of Mooresville, were she was graced us with her voice. She attended Rocky River Elementary in Mooresville, Cleveland Elementary in Cleveland, and N.B. Mills Elementary, West Iredell Middle School, and West Iredell High School.

Cookie was a senior at West Iredell High School, where she proudly served as a 1st Sergeant in the JROTC program. She was actively involved in the Multicultural Club, African American Club, and leadership activities.

Alexis was preceded in death by her grandfather, Rodney Phifer; grandmother, Gloria Pittman; grandfather Ricky Swint; great-grandmother, Allen Mayhew; great- grandfather, Joe Phifer; great- grandfather, Clayton McCombs; great great aunt, Alda Dawson; brother, Chavion Smith; an aunt, Tajuana Carson; and great uncles, Joe Watson III, and Jeffery and Scott Phifer.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her life her parents, Kenneth (Shonyeka) Wright and April McCombs; a brother, Demontevious Wright of Dublin; a sister, Zanavia McCombs of Mooresville; bonus sisters, Quashema Smith (Dayla) and Kaneyzha Brown of Statesville; her grandmother, Pamela McCombs; her great grandmother, Marie Williams, both of Mooresville; special grandmother Rozetta Harris; two uncles, Rodnico McCombs and Skyler McCombs, both of Mooresville; an aunt, Heather Richardson; along with two special cousins, Saniya McCombs and Alayla Dobbins; great-great uncles,Willie (Sadie) McCombs and Marlon Sanders; great-great aunts, Claudette Byers, Jarvis Stint, Jonathan Stint of Dublin, Sharon W. O’Neal (Tyress), Catherine W. Bailey, Cheronica Q Wright, Tomeka Jones, Michelle Lewis, all of Dublin; great aunts, Lisa Phifer (Gary), Dr. Wanda Smith (Bishop), and Penny Phifer; great uncle, Elliot Phifer; her bonus uncles and aunt, Bam Smith, Kadisha Harris, Reggie Geter and Robert Geter; special nieces and nephews, Samiyah Smith, Kazarion Brown, Kinsley Miller, and Chavion Kysire Scott. She leaves special friends, Cici, Rodrick,Malachi, Nari, Torrey, Lil Man, and Kamaya; and a host of other relatives and friends.
